Chair Rental
At Botany: The Studio
I go by Hairforthepeople online but Botany: the Studio is the name of my hair salon! Perfectly situated on the 7th floor of 602 West Hastings it has great natural light and is centrally located near all major transit routes, including two skytrains.
It’s petite but well designed by a stylist with other stylist and our unique needs in mind.
There is currently an opening in my studio for 1 renter.
*The studio will be getting a second chair and station installed in 2027, if you and your work bestie are looking for somewhere peaceful to work together, let me know and that upgrade could be accelerated.
Rental Models:
Botany: The Studio prioritizes renting to folks who are a good match. While my preference is to build a long term relationship(s) I would LOVE to host guest hair stylists like our sister industry, tattoo artists, do and in general can offer some flexibility for the right match.
Rental Rates
Day Rate: $150
P/T: $850-$1350
F/T: TBD
*Sunday-Tuesday are not available.
What should I expect?
I’ve worked in both commission and rental structures and what I found consistently was that I got promised the moon when on-boarding with a salon and was delivered diddly. From those experiences I have chosen to prioritize making the studio beautiful and inviting while keeping the operations and back-bar overhead minimal. This allows me to offer competitive rental rates while maintaining a boutique ambience suitable to high value services. The idea is to trust you to run your career the way you want to and clear the way for you to keep as much of your income as possible so that YOU can enjoy having the full liberty to decide for yourself what education, time off, pacing and goals etc you want to pursue. We’re all grown here- you do you!
Botany is not a street level salon with walk ins. This creates a more peaceful environment and is a great match for a stylist(s) who already has a clientele and wants to work in a lower stimulation environment where they have the independence to build the career they want.
On a personal note- as an autistic woman, I highly value clear and direct communication. I see clarity as a kindness and I like to talk about things before they become a source of friction. I expect anyone who rents from me to operate with respect and cleanliness in my studio and display a mature capacity to give and receive feedback. I have always connected well with people who move from a place of curiosity and clarity…and nerds, love a fellow nerd. I would really love to open my studio to other ND and Queer stylists who are seeking a lower-stimulation model of salon, particularly if you also prioritize cutting and/or razor work but that’s by no means a requirement, I just think it would be fun :)
What I do require is that we connect over leftist politics with a shared good faith effort to live up to the ideals of intersectional - feminism. I don’t need you to be running a co-op or volunteering in your spare time or that we agree on every detail, just shared pro trans/queer/choice/diversity/inclusion/anti-rascism/anti-abelist values.
If this clicks for you I’d love to talk more- send me an email!
